It was 10 years ago that singing group Jamali – Conference Corporate Entertainers won South African viewers’ hearts on the Popstars reality TV show in 2003/2004. With platinum album sales, sold out concerts and top music awards under their belts, the girls have never looked back.
‘Jamali’ was created out of the first two letters if their first names, comprising of three enormously talented starlets – Jacqui, Mariechan and Liesl.
The trio are best known for their belting-out, sensational ballads and their uniquely South African sound which has taken them straight to the top of both radio and sales charts.
Their first self-titled album hit platinum sales and set the group on the road to success. Their three-time SAMA (South African Music Awards) nominated-second album, ‘Yours Fatally’ was a huge hit with their fans.
The girls won the coveted SAMA for ‘Best South African Pop Act 2009’ for their third album, ‘3rd Base’. Their latest album ‘Toxic Candy’ was released in February 2011, a combination of two sides to Jamali – the seductively sweet love ballads that earned them their fame alongside a darker side where they offer up edgy dance and electronic anthems.
This album is a culmination of their vocal ability, song writing talent and sultry good looks. There are also some impressive collaborations.
Their song ‘Heaven’ features the astounding Soweto Gospel choir who add warmth and richness to the music.
The girls were also teamed up with two of South Africa’s top rappers – JR and Pro (ProKid) on ‘Jati’.
Jamali is currently working on new material and they released a new single called ‘This Time’ in January of this year.
The girls continue to offer up stellar live performances, packed with flawless choreography and harmonic vocals that are sure to get every single audience member on their feet.
An ever-evolving trio that goes from strength to strength with each passing year!
