Samantha Skyring is the founder and CEO of Oryx Desert Salt, an ethical food company redefining how people and businesses think about one of the world’s most essential ingredients. Her work challenges the dominance of processed, polluted salts by offering clean, mineral rich desert salt sourced with integrity and transparency.
Samantha’s entrepreneurial journey is defined by conviction and risk. To launch Oryx Desert Salt, she sold her home and invested everything into 34 tonnes of desert salt with no guarantee of success. That leap of faith shaped her leadership philosophy and now informs her work mentoring founders and purpose driven leaders navigating uncertainty.
Under her leadership, Oryx has scaled globally while staying deeply values led. The brand supplies retailers, chefs, food producers, and wellness practitioners with trusted salt solutions, from refill systems with ceramic grinders to bulk supply at commercial scale. Samantha believes business can be ethical, regenerative, and profitable at the same time, and her talks demonstrate what it takes to make that belief operational.
Samantha Skyring is the founder and CEO of Oryx Desert Salt, a purpose driven food company challenging the global salt industry by replacing processed, polluted salts with clean, mineral rich desert salt people can trust. Her work sits at the intersection of ethical sourcing, regenerative business, and courageous leadership.
Samantha Skyring’s journey into entrepreneurship was not driven by trend or convenience, but by conviction. While researching everyday food ingredients, Samantha Skyring uncovered widespread issues within the salt industry, including excessive processing, contamination, and the erosion of natural mineral profiles. Determined to offer a better alternative, she made a defining decision early in Oryx’s life cycle: she sold her home to personally fund the purchase of 34 tonnes of desert salt, without any guarantee it would sell. That leap of faith became the foundation of how she leads and why her story resonates so deeply with founders and executives navigating uncertainty.
Under Samantha’s leadership, Oryx Desert Salt has grown into a globally trusted brand while remaining uncompromising on ethics and quality. The company supplies retailers, chefs, food producers, and wellness practitioners through retail packs, refill systems with ceramic grinders, bulk orders up to one tonne, and practitioner education and training. Oryx is stocked by major South African retailers including Woolworths and Pick n Pay, served in more than 3,500 restaurants, available in Whole Foods Market in the United States, and supplied to JetBlue Airlines at a volume of 150,000 sachets per month.
Sustainability is not a marketing layer for Samantha Skyring; it is operational reality. Oryx Desert Salt is certified microplastic free, lab tested for purity, and designed around refill systems that significantly reduce waste. In 2024 alone, the company prevented more than 894,500 plastic grinders from entering landfill, saving over twelve shipping containers of plastic waste. These outcomes reflect Samantha’s belief that environmental responsibility and commercial success are not opposing forces, but mutually reinforcing ones.

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.
Virtual speaking appearances can indeed offer cost savings compared to in-person events. Virtual speaking rates are often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates due to factors such as reduced travel expenses and logistics. This makes virtual events a cost-effective alternative for organizations looking to book speakers within a budget.
Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.
The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.
Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.
Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.
