So where does an idea for the first Afrikaans Girl Group Shine 4 – Conference Corporate Entertainers , or “girlband”, in the entire world come from? Didi Kriel, of course! So where does an idea for the first Afrikaans Girl Group Shine 4 – Conference Corporate Entertainers , or “girlband”, in the entire world come from? Didi Kriel, of course! He’s the big boss and brains behind Eden, South Africa’s first and only Afrikaans “boyband” in the whole world!
The idea arose while I (Desirée) and Didi were driving back from the Aardklop 2000 festival.
Didi and I have come a long way together, and have worked on productions together since 1996. The last was “Antjie Somers” in 2000. And that was where the idea for Shine 4 came from!
Shine 4 is made up of two parts. I already knew Crissy Azevedo from “Antjie Somers”, and Jill Middlekop from previous productions that we had worked together in.
And so we had three girls, and started with auditions to find the fourth member! Eventually, we managed to find Desire Hennings, and from there we began work with getting songs together, and working on choreography.
That was the start of Shine 4, January 2001.
As with most of the groups I have read about, there were “teething problems”, and we lost two of our members! Jill and I had to start all over again with auditions.
It was extremely difficult and traumatic for all of us, because things had just begun to come together.
But you pick yourself up and start over. Finally, after a long search, Marlese Kapp joined us (September 2001), and after a long wait, Liesl Kriel too (October 2001), because she had to do well in her Matric exams!
By the time Aardklop 2001 arrived, we were together and are still standing now. We have done extremely well, and we are now bigger and stronger than ever before.
Everything happens for a reason, and we had to come through the hard times to enjoy the good times. That’s how life is: “the good and the bad”.
Shine 4 is a hot and happening new group set to become household names and take South African stages by storm.
Their unique blend of original songs, eloquent harmonies, spunky dance routines and…(fabulous bodies?) makes them larger than life and subsequently, sensational! “We’re beautiful. We know it. We’re talented. We don’t have to prove it. We are healthy and we love life.”
We are roots-and-all South African girls and we know what we want and how to get it… Because we can!”
Four incredible smiles…..perfect sets of teeth. Designer costumes and impeccable make-up…
One can’t help but notice that the reflection of their body-glitter seems to enhance the beauty and passion these girls radiate from within.
“Because it’s okay to believe in yourself and make things happen it’s okay to be the best you can be.
We respect ourselves and have maximum respect for others and we therefore believe that we don’t have to do anything that we don’t feel comfortable with.”
Backed by well-known producer and guru Didi Kriel, this group hit the road in April this year with several performances at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn.
The group will be officially launched to the media and the music industry in the very near future, after which they will depart for the UK where they have been invited to perform at the UKKasie Festival in Wembley, London.
Shine 4 is a must see: they are not scared to show what they’ve got – simply because their show depicts intelligent entertainment with a large dose of good looks and smashing tunes.
After seeing this show even the ozone problem seems to be a minor obstacle, and… you too will be addicted to life…and Shine 4
