It Is Possible! | Hermien Elago | TEDxUniversityofNamibia

In this 6 minute 32 second TEDx talk, Hermien Elago shares her powerful personal transformation story and the mindset tools that helped her overcome limiting beliefs and reclaim her self-worth.

This impactful 6m32 TEDx talk captures Hermien Elago’s deeply personal journey of confronting emotional eating, low self-worth and a lifetime of limiting beliefs. She opens with the moment that triggered her transformation: stepping on the scale in 2013 and seeing a number she never expected. From childhood, Hermien had struggled with body image and approval, recalling how at 13 she was already wishing to lose weight simply to feel accepted. She speaks candidly, weaving humour and vulnerability as she describes turning to food for comfort and internalising messages that she would “never change.”

Her turning point came when she challenged the narrative she had been told all her life. Instead of accepting defeat, she asked herself a powerful question: “What if I started and did not quit?” That decision marked the beginning of a profound personal evolution. Hermien describes discovering freedom, strength and purpose on the other side of courage, realising that true liberation comes from refusing to be imprisoned by fear or external judgment.

She shares the central lessons that shaped her transformation. First, the importance of “stick-to-itiveness,” the discipline to keep going even when the process is uncomfortable. Second, grit, the resilience to push through obstacles because the goal matters more than the hardship. Third, the realisation that “Superman is not coming”—she had to be her own hero and believe in herself more than anyone else could. She emphasises embracing discomfort (“embrace the suck”), falling forward when mistakes happen and never allowing failure to become a reason to quit.

It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Virtual speaking appearances can indeed offer cost savings compared to in-person events.
