Grant Fowlds is a respected wildlife conservationist, speaker, and advisor whose lifelong connection to the African bush has shaped a career dedicated to protecting endangered species and preserving natural ecosystems. Raised in the wild landscapes of Southern Africa, he developed a deep understanding of nature from an early age. This passion evolved into a mission to conserve wildlife, restore threatened habitats, and inspire the next generation to value Africa’s environmental heritage.

His work extends beyond conservation management to large-scale community outreach, where he has educated thousands of young people about the importance of biodiversity and the urgent need to protect disappearing species. Through these initiatives, he helped spearhead fundraising efforts supporting an NGO whose corporate partnerships elevated the message “Stop Wildlife Crime” across multiple platforms.

This 4 minute 57 second video follows Grant Fowlds on a virtual gorilla trekking experience in Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Grant opens by guiding viewers through the communities surrounding Bukavu, where he and his team visit humble schools, meet enthusiastic children, and try to instill awareness of gorilla conservation and tourism. He notes the stark conditions: dark, overcrowded classrooms with few resources, contrasted with the excitement and warmth of the students.
Grant shares scenes of Bukavu’s chaotic streets during heavy rain, showing resilience and daily life amid flooding and litter as locals continue playing soccer. The journey shifts to a climate-focused initiative where the team plants trees through a partnership with Po Pole and the Tanglewood Foundation. They also spend time with local conservation leaders JN and Odet, including a Tusk Award winner, whose hospitality underscores the human connections central to the mission.
The team then enters the volcanic forests of Mount Kahuzi, meeting park rangers including members of the Pygmy community, the original custodians of these habitats. Grant explains that the park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has endured the impacts of civil conflict but remains a sanctuary for the world’s largest great ape species: the eastern lowland gorilla.
Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.
Virtual speaking appearances can indeed offer cost savings compared to in-person events. Virtual speaking rates are often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates due to factors such as reduced travel expenses and logistics. This makes virtual events a cost-effective alternative for organizations looking to book speakers within a budget.
Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.
The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.
Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.
Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.
