Corné Krige is a former Springbok captain and respected rugby leader whose career is defined by determination, resilience and a deep commitment to team culture. Born in Zambia and educated at Paarl Boys’ High, he overcame multiple career-threatening injuries to make his long-awaited Test debut for South Africa in 1999. In a remarkable first appearance, he captained the Springboks to a dominant 101–0 victory over Italy in Durban.
Krige went on to earn 39 Test caps, becoming full-time Springbok captain in 2002 and leading the national side in 18 matches before retiring from international rugby in January 2004. As an openside flank, he was known for his relentless work ethic, physicality and competitive drive, qualities that made him one of South Africa’s most respected leaders during a challenging era for the team.
Following his rugby career, Corné built a successful business portfolio that includes ownership of an outdoor advertising company, and he authored his autobiography Right Place at the Wrong Time, offering candid insights into his rugby journey. Corné’s Test debut came in 1999 and captained the Springboks on his test debut in a 101-0 victory over Italy in Durban. He appeared in 39 tests for South Africa, became the full-time captain in 2002, and captained the Boks 18 times in all , before his international retirement in January 2004.
