2010 was the birth year of 5th Season. It began as a trio consisting of a guitar, a bass and a drumkit. Since then the band has added a few additions. We have performed at over 700 private functions, weddings and corporate events in and around Kwa-Zulu Natal and other parts of South Africa.
We have 2 albums and a few singles. Our ‘3 out of 4’ album was nominated for the Mzantsi Jazz Awards in 2018. Our members have changed over the years but our passion for providing quality music with an awesome enjoyable atmosphere for our clients hasn’t!
Having met whilst studying jazz & popular music at UKZN back in 2010, founder members of the band, brothers Devon & Brayden Hore (Drummer & Bassist) teamed up with talented guitarist Mthunzi Mchunu (Mo).
The trio, with their shared passion for Ballads, Swing, Smooth & African jazz, as well as commercial/pop with a jazz element, have establishing themselves as a go-to-band in KZN under the name 5TH SEASON (meaning an exciting and new season in music), and have travelled the province since, exposing their talents at various functions consisting of mainly Private Functions, Corporate events & weddings.
The Trio expanded its musical offering to include the extremely versatile vocalist Janice Joseph, also a product of UKZN. Janice’s voice compliments the talents of the musicians & in short, completes 5TH SEASON as a band.
Playing a wide variety of well-known jazz standards and contemporary tunes, as well as proudly South African favorites, 5th Season always adds in their own unique flavour.
Their debut album “Symmetry” is the result of many months of planning, and reflects the band’s diversity and heritage. It is a blend of re-arrangements of jazz standards and original compositions, and is collectively very easy listening, appealing to the more discerning music lover.
